"Say hello to my little friend....."

This guy is NOT shy and is out all the time :) . He will eat anything - flakes, pellets, mysis, cyclopeeze and holds his own with larger tank mates (Purple Tang, Sargassum Trigger, and Blue Throat Trigger) when the food frenzy occurs.

A local LFS recently brought in 4 of these Borbs for me and a few friends. 3 went to friends/local hobbyists and the one you see below is a Christmas present for a buddy of mine. It's about the size of a $2 coin. The first 4 pictures were taken at the LFS, the final 2 pictures were taken as it acclimates in my refugium as it awaits its new Christmas home. Not the best pictures as they were taken with my phone....but you get the idea.

One of my favourites, I love the look of these guys.

How much $ he set you back? These are typically a very very pricy acquisition aren't they?

Yup - I think they go around $300

Thanks for the compliments everyone. My buddy loves his early Christmas present. I'll be using my refugium to fatten the Borb up a bit and make sure it's eating before passing him onto his new home.

It is goofy looking. That's part of the attraction I think for people that like them. ;)

Borbs love cliffs and overhangs as areas to rest or seek shelter. They also tend to take time to adjust to our bright lighting as they are from deeper waters.

In terms of pricing; it generally depends on the "season". There is a "season" for these fish. Typically end of November to approx. end of March from my understanding. I'm uncertain whether it is the lack of food sources at their natural depths or spawning that brings them a little closer to the surface during this period (which makes them easier to catch).

I've said it before; I'll say it again....hobbyists are VERY fortunate to be in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). We are spoiled with selection and pricing. PMs sent to LoJack and Wayner. I'm uncertain on the rules about posting prices.

It also pays to know Red who knows people who know people....i've been looking for these for almost three years. Every time they get listed they sell out in no time. But get on one of Red's legendary lists and things happen. This is the result, two healthy Borbs in QT:lol:

Thanks for your kind words. Glad I could help a fellow hobbyist. Very cool pics. Thanks for sharing.

P.S. - It's not necessarily "people who know people".....it's compromising photographs and recordings. ;) jk

hmmm...either the reefers in GTA are extremely rich or they just get these fishes for dirt cheap. I wish I could afford a pair

I think we've seen BOTH sides of that coin at LFS. Some people spend like $ is nothing. Other times we've seen some person(s) haggle as if their life depended on it. ;)
