If you are going with a LED. You will want mostly red with a little blue and white. Other colors like uv help but are not absolutely needed. I personally thought I got better growth out of 18 hour photo period them I Did with24 but for me it wasn't a big difference except for saving power and a few hours of use on my light a day.

Refugium or Sump LED Lighting Kit
They also do assembled half kits , but you have to email them and request it.
The guy i dealt with is Jeff and service is good.

They built a custom half kit for me very close to standard 30" half kit. (http://shop.stevesleds.com/SPS-Grade-LED-Retrofit-Kit-Package-34-44-tanks-SPS-Retrofit-Kit-34-48.htm)
But because it was customized it was more costly then i expected.

Comunication was good as well. they supplied a wrong power supply initially but then sent me a correct one for free and let me keep the other one as a spare.
So overall experience is good.

SPS corals now show color improvement after a month or so of use. I now see more pink and blue, getting close to what i had with 250x2 MH DE HQI 14k

I find that one of the compact fluorescent, curly cues, daylight bulbs works well for growing cheato. Bought mine at HD
Screw it into a clip on desk lamp or such and ur good to go

Seems pretty expensive for a 14 led fixture that you have to build yourself. Also you probably want more red then other colors not mostly white like that one has.

i used 42w cfls for years with good growth so they will grow just fine. Just make sure that you get the right spectrum if you decide to switch to led or you will end up with non impressive results.

I used one - I had no growth. When I swapped to a par38 fuge LED bulb - everything doubled almost overnight. It's awesome! Mangroves, chaeto and my dragons breath are growing substantially, and I have it on for 12 hours per day.

I tried those curly cue lights for over 6 months in 2 brood cages on 2 sides of my ATS and managed to grow a bunch of slime algae and little else. I'v since yanked it out and trying to find some time to set up this light I got from Nick over some mangroves. It looks awesome!

Use Daylight spectrum CFL bulbs, but also use 6500k LED bulbs bought off DealsXtreme over my sump.
