JANUARY 2006

Flim's 33 Gallon Reef

"my reef tank is fascinating, educational and very rewarding"

System:

The tank is a 33 gallon (18"x18"x21") with a CPR overflow and 110L sump.   Equipment includes a  ASM G4X, mag 7 return pump and 2 Maxijet 1200 powerheads that are on a wave timer that activates them every 20 seconds.

Tank Chemistry:

Specific Gravity:  1.025  Alkalinity:  5-8dkh   Calcium:  360-390  Nitrates:   0.5

Temperature: 26C  pH: 8.0-8.4

Currently I am using WM Calcimax to provide calcium for my tank. Previously I used an Aquamedic calcium reactor but it isn't working and I need to get a new one.  I have a Pinpoint pH monitor that keeps track of fluctuating pH as well as a Pinpoint calcium monitor that keeps track of my calcium.

Lighting and Photoperiod:

I use a Giesemann HQI Metal Halide system with a 14000k bulb.  The lights are on from 11:00am to 8:00pm

Tank Inhabitants:

My tank is a mixture of SPS, LPS and some soft corals such as zoanthids and ricordea.  I have about 30lbs of rock in the main tank and another 30lbs in the sump.
Currently the tank is home to 2 ocellaris clownfish, a yellow watchman goby a purple queen anthias, a porcelain crab, 2 anemone shrimp and a red starfish.  The fish are very difficult to take photos of and so I have not provided any photos of them.

I am planning on getting a bigger tank in the future and will  likely get one that is 36"x30"x20".  Having started last July 2005, my reef tank still has a long ways to go but I'm looking forward to the changes I will see in the future.  Canreef has been a tremendous help just reading all the questions and problems my fellow reefers have encountered. I am learning something new every day!
